Topic:
Lessons Learned from Virginia Tech – Luck is not a Strategic Plan

Speaker:
Harry W. Rhulen Esq. Chairman/CEO, Co-Founder—Firestorm Solutions, LLC

Abstract:
When the shots rang out at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007 the security and cyber security worlds were changed forever.  Events like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and Virginia Tech have each advanced the knowledge set for security professionals.  Each year, technology expands exponentially.  These technological improvements work for both the good, and those intent on doing evil.

We live in a world where people demand information 24/7.  This demand has created an expectation of open access and instant, complete information.  The perceived need by leaders to comply with the information demands of various constituents has created security vulnerabilities.

The perception by those demanding information is often that they are not getting the whole story.  This creates both physical and cyber security threats.  In addition, there are those, intent on doing harm who view disasters as an open invitation to attack an organization when their guard is down.
